Friends’ secondary school - Shamakhokho was first registered on 2nd February 1979
under the sponsorship of the yearly meeting of friends. It went out of operation in1980.The school remained in this state not until 1989 when concerted efforts were
made to revive it but also collapsed in 1991 after just two years of being in operation.
Towards the end of 2001 stakeholders from the local community set up an interim
committee to spearhead the reopening of the institution to run its affairs, under the
chairmanship of Mr. Mathias Iravonga and the sponsorship of Mr. Shem . M . Isigi . The
committee held office until 6th June 2003 when the schools board of governors (B.O.G)
was appointed.
The school is currently registered as a double stream mixed day school.
The initial infrastructure of the school that comprises of 5 classrooms was built by the
community. The other 3 classrooms were constructed through the constituency
development fund.
The government through the economic stimulus projects built a storey building, which
houses an administration block and tuition block. This storey building was completed
at 70% according to the present documentation.
The school has embarked on its
completion from the funds received per year for maintenance and infrastructure.
This block has 6 classrooms,1 computer laboratory, 1 spacious library, 1 staffroom,
offices for HOD’s and other staff offices i.e. principal, deputy
principal, boardroom, bursar, accounts clerk, typing pool, exams office and lavatories.
